Pure North Golf Cars is committed to being an integral part of the Northern Michigan community through our sales, rentals, and service of golf cars. Whether yours is a passion for golf or simply a love of the Michigan outdoors, we aspire to provide you with quality products and unparalleled service, bringing you closer to that Pure North experience.

Our Story

Meet Doug and Jennifer McDonald

In 2017, due to road construction, a detour took us down 31 through Petoskey.  We looked at each other and said - why don't we live here?  Doug owned and operated a construction company and I (Jennifer) had a career in Higher Education, both in Genesee County.  We started talking about different options and how we could move our family and employment up north.  Doug's brother Matt (Five Star Golf Cars) jumped in with "Doug, you should open a golf car dealership."  The more we talked about it the more it seemed like a viable option for us.  Next step:  find a location.  Later that Fall while driving around and dreaming of our new adventure, we came across a piece of commercial property on 31 south of town.  Many months later, with a partnership of the McDonald siblings, Pure North Golf Cars was born.

We opened our doors in the spring of 2018 and what a journey it has been so far!  We have gone from 13 Used Golf Cars to over 75 New, Used, and Customized EZGOs.  In 2021 we began carrying the Tomberlin brand of vehicles which meet the Michigan LSV, titling and plating requirements for places like Bay Harbor, Charlevoix, & Harbor Springs.

We are excited to be part of the community and to meet new customers that we hope will become friends.  

The Partnership

Meet the Partners

Our family grew up in Flint. Our father was a skilled trades worker for General Motors. Our stay at home mom was a poet at heart. Our parents inspired us to work hard, respect others, enjoy the outdoors, and follow our dreams. They also encouraged us to stay close and look out for one another.

Dad pushed us from an early age to work for ourselves, his idea of success. And that's exactly what we did.  Now after successfully running our own businesses, and working in a variety of fields, we have come together to bring you Pure North Golf Cars.

Doug McDonald –owned and operated DRM Masonry & Construction for 30 years in Genesee County Michigan.

Matt McDonald –is a founding partner in Five Star Golf Cars, the largest EZGO distributor on the East Coast.

Becky Sorensen -is an investment advisor, financial planner, and CPA in the Metro Detroit area.

Through Pure North, we are following the dream our parents' had for us and a few new ones of our own.
